After all the press he got on this one moment where has Kramer gone. Could it be that the Season 7 DVD no longers needs additional press? Kramer please let us know where you are?
In a recent video release Michael Richards was seen berating and tossing racial slurs at a audience member during one of his comedy standup acts. While the entire context of the show and the incident are unknown, the video looks to make Cosmo Kramer out to be racist. Is He? My thought on this is maybe so, but I can’t believe that he is any threat. What got my attention was his appearance on Letterman via Phone/Satellite with Jerry Seinfeld in an attempt to apologize. While Kramer looked to be sincere and torn up over the remarks that he had made, the audience chuckled, and seem to be waiting for the punch line. You could tell he was very uncomfortable, and even Jerry chimed in saying this is “not funny”. The public only knows one Michael Richards as Kramer from the hiti comedy series “Seinfeld” Which so happens is releasing their ” Seinfeld Season 7 DVD” HMMM! Is this uncanny timing or could it be a great marketing idea.
The rant was just Kramer venting against a member of the audience and he got so upset that he exploded. In an effort to shut them up he tried to go after their race. It is no different than when you or I get in an argument that is so heated, you start going after the personal attributes of the person, and then regret it later. We have all said things that we wish we could take back later. I don’t see this as any different. The only difference is that this is one of the Seinfeld characters, and it happens to be on the launch of a new DVD. Kramer was trying to apologize on the Letterman show, by stating that he did not want his actions to cause any undue harm on the Black’s and Whites relationships. WHAT! Who made him the spokesman for all of America. He even brought up the fact that Hurricane Katrina has divided this country and that his remarks at a comedy club somehow was reflective of this under current of emotions. While I applaud his efforts to apologize, I am not sure that the Black community feels particularly threatened by Cosmo Kramer. Best of luck in your future career in Hollywood, as this may be the last we hear from Kramer, based on his performance on Letterman.
