Forrest Gump Guide to Shopping

I think we all can learn a lot from the ways of Forrest Gump. Forrest had a simple way of looking at things and that makes him unique from most people. He never did try to fit in or follow the crowd and if you seen the end of the movie it paid off BIG for ol’ Forrest. If your doing what everybody else is doing, your probably going to be just another one in the crowd. When you decide to take the road less traveled, it might be harder and some might laugh at you, but you can be proud of your self that you went your own way.

So your probably thinking, what does Forrest and shopping have in common? Well how often do we go to the store to pick up a certain item or items? Sometimes we end up buying something extra that we see and for those of you that really have a shopping problem, that 1 item you went in to grab becomes a buggy full. Now if Forrest went into the store to find that one certain item, I believe he would have just bought that item. I also think if Forrest didn’t see the item he was looking for, he would have walked out of that store without buying anything.

Now the important lesson here is to stay on track. If you go to the store to get a certain thing, don’t be tempted by other things you see. Go in that store, get your 1 item and walk out. Go back home and think about that other thing you wanted to pick up and if you continue to want that item and really wished you would have picked it up. Just make plans to go back later and get that 1 item and not anything else on your 2nd trip. This is a good money savings lesson and more times than not, you learn that other thing really isn’t something you need and that becomes extra money in your pocket books.

Now Forrest would also be willing to see a good opportunity and would not be willing to pass it up. Remember Bubba’s idea about the shrimping company? Forrest had no interest or thoughts in the shrimping industry, but when he seen how Bubba had it all figured out, it made him interested in it. Forrest allowed his self to be versatile and accept new ideas and it was that trait that made Forrest so rich (that and the luck of Mother Nature). So it’s good to stay on track, but you also must be able to incorporate the ability to go in a new direction at any time.

Some are lucky and they know what they want to do in life; while others let the wind blow them in any direction. If we start at the supermarket and department stores with that determination to only buy what we came in there to get and mix that with the ability to take full advantage of an opportunity that might present it self, we can make a big difference in our lives and be in a better place tomorrow. That might sound like a contradiction, but it’s actually the secret of life. It takes balance and you’re the only one that can determine that balance for your life. Learning to only buy the things we want or need and keeping our eyes open for something that can change our lives forever is the secret to a happy and prosperous life. Give Forrest Gump thinking a shot, he’s not as dumb as you might think!
