Anyone Getting Ready For the Beach?

Uncategorized No Comments »

I haven’t been to the lake or a beach in a long time. We are in a drought right now, so the lake levels are pretty low. It’s always fun getting ready to go to the beach. You load the car or truck up with all your floats and beach ball and they take up a lot of room. You don’t want to blow them up at the beach, so you do it at home first. Throw a few towels in and get the drinks on ice in the cooler. Then your all set for the beach!

Now the best part of going to the beach is staying in the water for a long time. When you start seeing your hands getting all them wrinkles in them, you know you been in the water for awhile. Then after being in the water so long, it makes you start getting hungry. So you have that swimmer’s hunger going on. I like that feeling, as long as there is some food around the corner. No good having the swimmer’s hunger with no food! When you do have food involved, it’s fun to go stuff your face. Something about swimming just makes us hungry, and you can really eat a lot after you swim. Just remember that 30 minute thing, don’t eat then go swimming. It is so much better to eat after swimming anyways. If you are planing on going to the beach soon, or have been already, I would love to hear about your beach stories. Do you go to lay on a float and just relax on the water, maybe swim a lot for exercise purposes, or maybe you just go to the beach to work on the tan? Let me know of your beach stories, and don’t forget the sunblock!

National Bingo Night in America

Uncategorized No Comments »

A show that has recently started on ABC is called National Bingo Night in America. It’s an hour long show that gives away prizes to people in the studio and people playing at home. It’s not the typical game show that you normally see. It’s probably going to be a pretty popular show, since people at home can play. Now if you would like to play, you can go to ABC.com and look for more details.

They give away some pretty good prizes. It’s probably worth giving it a try. The show came on last night (Friday). I’m not sure if that’s the only night it comes on or not. I was thinking we might could give National Bingo Night in America a try? Is there anybody that wants to join me? We can go to ABC.com and print out our bingo cards. I think you can print out as many as you like. They will have red cards, white cards, and blue cards. Just make sure you are using the right card for the right game. This is just standard bingo, that we will be playing. If you get 5 across, up and down, or diagonal; then you are a winner! So whose game? Let’s try to play some Bingo and see if we can win anything. Please reply back if you are interested in giving it a shot this Friday or perhaps you have already played. Then you can maybe come on and give some extra information on how it works. It’s time to play some Bingo!

Where Are the Bees?

Uncategorized No Comments »

Have you heard about all the honey bees? They are disappearing, and nobody knows why. This is a pretty big story, since honey bees are responsible for so many things. Something as simple as an apple, wouldn’t be around if it wasn’t for honeybees. They help to pollinate many of our fruit trees, and garden plants. Honey bees are a big part of the pollination process, and we would have dramatic changes without the little boogers. Yes, I know they can be annoying, and it hurts to get stung by them, but we need them. Most of us might think of honey when we think of honeybees but they are a vital source to our agriculture.

Now they are disapperaing at an alarming rate, and scientists have yet to put their finger on the problem. There’s been all kinds of suggestions to what’s been going on. Some thought it could be some form of terroist attack, or the cell phone towers could be causing them to disappear. It seems that since we are not finding any dead bees, that they are just getting lost on their routes. Something is causing them to fly away from the hive, and they can’t find their way back to the hive.

There’s now a term that has been named to this problem. It’s called Colony Collapse Disorder. CCD is hard to cure, since we don’t know exactly what the problem is. There have been about 5 new diseases that have been found in honeybees recently. Some of these diseases can break down the immune system, and be like a person that is suffering from Aids. Their immune systems can be weaken, and couldn’t fight off these diseases. It’s not exactly sure what’s causing this to happen.

Since farmers have recently been using new chemicals to kill weeds and bugs from crops. It’s possible that some of these new chemicals might be responsible for what’s going on with the honey bees. This will be something that has to be corrected in the near future, or we might have to do without some of the things that we have been accustomed to. So take care of the honey bees out there!

Crazy State Laws

Uncategorized No Comments »

Now every state has crazy laws that are still on the books. At some time long ago, there was probably a good reason to have some of these laws. Since they were made into laws, some still exist today. Even though some of these don’t apply to us, or don’t even make much sense now, they are still laws. You could still be charged for these laws. However, it would probably create a lot of publicity for any law enforcement to try and enforce some of these laws.

Since I live in the state of Georgia. I will share some of the crazy laws that are still on the books today in the Peach State. Now some of these laws might just be a city or community in Georgia. Not all of these are state laws, but some of them are:

1) All citizens must own a rake.
2) It’s against the law to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp.
3) Can’t cut off a chicken’s head on Sunday.
4) Donkeys may not be kept in bathtubs.
5) Chicken must be eaten with the hands.
6) It is illegal to use profanity in front of a dead corpse.
7) Though it is illegal to spit from a car or bus, citizens may spit from a truck. 8) Members of the state assembly cannot be ticketed for speeding while the state assembly is in session.
9) No one may carry an ice cream cone in their back pocket if it is Sunday.
10) One man may not be on another man’s back.

So there is a few of the laws that are in my state. Don’t laugh. All 50 states have some sort of crazy laws that are still on the books today. Just remember that ignorance is no excuse for breaking a law. So as funny and weird as some of these may seem. You could still be charged with one of these, if they really wanted to get you for something.

Happy Mothers Day!

Uncategorized No Comments »

I would just like to take the time to wish all the mothers out there a Happy Mothers Day! Thank you for all that you do. Where would we all be at without ya?

U.S. History on Mothers Day

In the United States of America Mother’s Day was first suggested in the year 1872 by Julia Ward Howe who wrote the words to the Battle hymn of the Republic as a day dedicated to peace. She would hold an organized Mother’s Day meeting in Boston, Massachusetts every year.
It wasn’t until in 1907 when Anna Jarvis, from Philadelphia, began a campaign to establish a national Mother’s Day. Ms. Jarvis persuaded her mother’s church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate Mother’s Day on the second anniversary of her mother’s death, the 2nd Sunday of May. By the next year Mother’s Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia.

She and several of her supporters began to write to ministers, businessman, and politicians in their endeavour to establish a national Mother’s Day. In 1910, the governor of West Virginia proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day and a year later every state celebrated it. It was successful as by 1911 Mother’s Day was celebrated in almost every state. President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, made the official announcement proclaiming Mother’s Day as a national holiday that was to be held each year on the 2nd Sunday of May.

So we don’t like too many more Mothers Day, from being 100 years old! Now with all the history about Mothers Day, I wonder when Fathers Day started? Happy Mothers Day!
