Disaster Free Places To Live

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

After seeing the folks in California dealing with a 5.4 magnitude earthquake earlier this week, it got me to thinking about places to live where disasters don’t occur. I’m not sure if there is really any place like that on Earth, but you can certainly pick your poision when you do decide to live somewhere. I live about 40 miles north of Atlanta, Georgia in the North Georgia Mountains and we don’t have earthquakes here. Good thing we don’t have them here, because people would not be as keen on these things like the California residents are. I guess the same would be true if a tornado came through California, those folks would not be  prepared to take cover like the folks in North Georgia have to do about a half dozen times a year. So where can we live to avoid earthquakes and tornados?

Well if you start running from those 2 natural disasters, you just find your self having to worry about other things. New York seems like a place that you wouldn’t have to deal with tornados or earthquakes, but they are other things in the Big Apple that you might have to watch out for. In New York you would have to deal with freezing cold temps in the winter and the possibility of being trapped at home in a blizzard.  People in New York City and around the coast line that has a very dense population of people and businesses are at risk for a hurricane that might come off the Atlantic Ocean. You also would have to face the un-natural things like another terroism attack on New York, so heading toward the Northeast doesn’t make a lot of sense either.

Is there any where to live that is safe from disasters? Perhaps if we just move to Canada, we would only have to worry about the cold temperatures, high winds and blizard-like conditions they have to deal each year. Idaho and Montana also seem like places you wouldn’t have to worry about tornados, earthquakes or hurricanes. So if the people on the East Coast wonder why anyone would want to live out in California with all of the earthquakes they have; chances are they are wondering why we choose to live in places that gets tornados. So there really isn’t any place that it totally safe from disasters and you always have floods and lightning that can put a damper on anyone’s picnic. When you choose to live somewhere, you just need to be aware of the history of the land, so you can prepare for what Mother Nature might throw at you someday.

Romania for Business or Pleasure

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Romania is located in the southeastern part of Europe and almost all of the Danube Delta is located inside of it’s borders. Romania is on the rise and their economy is one of the fasting growing economies in Europe today. Business has never been better for this nation and looks like a paradise to investors looking to capitalize on the European Markets. The capital city of Bucharest or Bucuresti as the Romanians like to say, is where all of the action in Romania is at. Bucharest is the largest city in Romania and it lies on the banks of the Dambovita River. The nickname of Bucharest is Little Paris or Paris of the East, due to the French architects that influenced so many of the buildings in Bucharest. There is a lot of daily business that takes place in Romania each day, but pleasure is never too far behind for the lucky people that live in Romania.

Some of the best clubs and party life can be found in places like the Laptaria Enache, the La Motoare, Fire Club or Club A. These are the places the locals like to go to and experience the nightlife in Romania. I’m sure there are more hot spots, places to see and things to do in Romania and please be sure to let me know more about this beautiful country. If you have visited there, share the places you stayed at, what you did and what was the best thing about your trip to Romania. If you’re a resident of Romania and can give any good recommendations to an American that might be visiting your country for the first time; then feel free to give tips and suggestions. I’m not sure a 1 week vacation would be enough time to take in all of the beauty and surroundings of Romania. I would like to go there for several months or even a year just visiting all the places and roaming the country side in Romania. This European Nation is certainly a place for business or pleasure.

Taking a Trip to Daytona Soon

Monday, May 26th, 2008

I will soon be leaving south for the beaches in Florida in the Daytona area. I have been there before and it was a fun time. There is a lot to do in central Florida and Orlando has everything in the middle of Florida. Daytona is about an hour away from Orlando and Daytona is located on the eastern side of the Florida Penninsula. The most famous landmark in Daytona is the race track that NASCAR uses. There is two NASCAR events held at Daytona each year and they are both big races. The Daytona 500 is like the Super Bowl for NASCAR and it’s the very first race of the season each year. The 2nd race is held around the 4th of July and this is like the midway point to the racing season, like the Major League Baseball All Star Game that is held each year in July. So without question, the International Daytona Speedway Track in Daytona, Florida is the main attraction.

So those are a couple of things I look forward to, when I make my trip to Daytona in June. I will be gone down there for a full 7 days and I can’t wait. I really need the time off from work and I am over due for a vacation. I haven’t been on a good vacation in the last several years, so I think I will make sure to make the trip down to Florida with my family this June.

Life in Vegas

Monday, May 19th, 2008

There is no doubt one of the best places you could ever travel to is Las Vegas, Nevada. There is so much to do and see out in the desert, you would have no problems trying to find Things to do in Las Vegas. The city is always full of life and after midnight is when the party begins in Las Vegas.

The memories you have from a trip to Vegas would last a life time and you would never forget a trip or trips that you made to this awesome city. Going to Vegas with about 8 of my friends was the best trip I have ever made and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Many of my buddies that made the trip with me, would also say the same thing. If you ask us to describe our trip, most of us start with the same thing and that would be the girls! Forget the pool at the hotel, the entertaining shows and all the casinos Vegas has to offer; it’s all about the women for us! We had such a fun time talking and flirting with all the lovely ladies in Las Vegas, that it has made us want to return back there again some day. Since I am a single guy, Vegas makes perfect sense for me. It might not be the best place for a married man to go, but if the wife will let you out of the house, I strongly recommend a trip to Las Vegas. You will find dozens of beautiful women out there and deciding on which one you want to spend the most time with, is going to be your only problem. The women are everywhere in Las Vegas and you won’t have to search hard to find 2 or 3 dozen of them.

If you are planning a trip to Las Vegas in the near future, please be sure to check with Trusted Tours & Attractions before you go. They can help you with your hotels, flights to and from Vegas and they will also show you ways to save money during your trip to Las Vegas. They will also make sure you get with the right sightseeing tours so you don’t miss a thing and can experience all the great attractions Las Vegas has to offer. Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Flying to the Far East

Friday, April 25th, 2008

How great would it be to travel to an Asian country? I like Asian food and some of the coastal cities are beautiful in the far eastern part of the world. I could check on Flights to thailand through a UK company called DialAFlight. They are a good service to check on flights, hotels and travel ideas for many cities through out the world. I believe the southern area of Thailand would be my first choice, if I did make a flight out to an Asian country.

If you look in the southern area of Thailand you will see areas like Bangkok, Cha – Am and Pattaya. I would prefer to go to this area of Thailand and see the beautiful coast that makes up the southern region of Thailand. I’m sure they would be many great food dishes that would be prepared with fresh seafood that comes out of the Gulf of Siam. I love fresh seafood and to give it an Asian flavor would make a trip to Thailand well worth it. I’m sure it would be a great culture experience for me too, but I know my stomach would have a great time taking a trip to the Far East.

Shangri La Botanical Gardens & Nature Center

There is exciting news coming out of Texas about a new botanical gardens and nature center that will be opening soon. It’s the Shangri La and is located in Orange, Texas. The city of Orange has a rich history in the lumber industry and is also the home of the Stark Museum of Art. The museum contains an extensive collection of artwork that focuses on American Western art and artifacts. Orange, Texas has a seaport and most visitors can find their way to Orange by traveling on Interstate 10 into the eastern side of Texas. People that will be visiting this beautiful city in the Lone Star State will find a new botanical garden and nature center that will be open to the public in early May of 2008.

The Shangri La Gardens and Nature Center is going to be a modern Shangri La in Orange, Texas. “Shangri La” means a place of beauty, peace and enlightenment. Visitors and residents of Orange, Texas will find that this modern recreation will show the best of nature and gardens. This ecosystem friendly environment will take up 252 acres of land in the city of Orange. Visitors will be able to go to the Nature Discovery Center, Exhibit Hall, Discovery Theater, Children’s Garden, Exhibition Greenhouses, Cafe and Garden Store. This will just be some of the great things people will get to experience while being on the inside of the Shangri La in Orange, Texas.

Another reason to get excited about this botanical garden and nature center is the fact that they have received the U.S. Green Building Council’s Platinum Certification for Leed®-NC. This prestigious certification is only given to places that show the design and construction reaches the highest green building and performance measures. Shangri La received this in February of 2008 and has only been the 50th place in the world to get this honor. So it just shows you how much time and effort has been put into the making of this modern Shangri La that you find in Eastern Texas.

This is going to be a place that school field trips are made to and parents will want to bring their own kids to the Shangri La. Orange, Texas has always been a great place to travel to and experience a part of Texas culture. Now there is one more reason that travelers will want to include Orange, Texas on their road trips and family vacations; so they can see all the beauty that is at the Shangri La botanical gardens and nature center.

Travel to Disney World

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

A trip to Disney World can do the whole family some good! You’re never too young or too old to make a trip down to Florida to see Mickey and the gang. If you’re searching for Lake Buena Vista Hotels or a hotel near all the theme parks, consider staying at Orlando Vista Hotel. This is a good location for a hotel and they are located right beside all the attractions that make up the Orlando area. There are many restaurants in walking distance from the Orlando Vista Hotel. I really like having the food places close to my hotel room, so I can go grab a bite anytime, without having to get the car out and driving in areas I’m not familiar with.

This disney good neighbor hotel isn’t just close to Disney World, but it’s near a lot of the other attractions that your family will want to check out; while staying in Orlando. Sea World, Universal Studios, the Florida Mall, Pleasure Island, House of Blues and City Walk are just a few more things located near the Orlando Vista Hotel. You really will be choosing a prime location that is in the heart of Orlando and near all the entertainment the city has to offer.

The Orlando Vista Hotel is the perfect place to stay for those that might be attending conventions in the area. They are geared toward the conventioneers or attendees of Orlando conventions. The 2008 American Urological Association Annual Meeting will be held in Orlando and people attending this event couldn’t stay at a better place than the Orlando Vista Hotel. If you or someone you know will be attending the AUA be sure that they check with the Orlando Vista for their reservations. They will take those last minute bookings and you will find great rates at this Orlando Hotel. So be sure to make your American Urological Association or AUA plans today for the annual meeting in late May.

Tour Guide for Atlanta

Friday, March 14th, 2008

I live 40 miles north of Atlanta, Georgia and have been there several times. I am not someone that would make a great tour guide. I get lost just about every time I go down to Atlanta. I could offer some fun things to do in Atlanta, but wouldn’t be much help if you needed me as the chauffer. The World of Coke, the Georgia Aquarium and eating at the Varsity are a few things you would want to do in Atlanta. If you do find your self lost, just stay straight and eventually you will find Interstate 285 and this is an interstate that loops all the way around Atlanta and is just a big circle.

I remember we left a Melissa Etheridge concert in Atlanta around midnight one time and some how made a wrong turn. We were traveling through some of the worse neighborhoods Atlanta had to offer. It’s amazing how easy it is to get lost in Atlanta and one wrong turn, can certainly have you headed in the wrong direction. There was about six of us in a mini van and everyone was giving directions on how to get out of those bad neighborhoods. It seem every time we made a turn, we just got more lost. That’s been a long time ago and the neighborhoods around the city of Atlanta have improved a lot. So you won’t have any fears getting around the city and Atlanta is a great place to plan a trip too!

A good place to start planning a trip to Atlanta or any other big city is with Trusted Tours & Attractions. They can help you get off to the right start by finding places to stay, travel arrangements and things to do and see in the city you plan to visit. Trusted Tours & Attractions can keep you up-to-date on all the latest things; when you sign up for their newsletter. The Pyramids in Egypt

Monday, February 4th, 2008

I would like to travel outside the borders of my country one day. So many places out there I would like to visit. Many European cities would be high on my list and I would have to include a stop in Italy if I did make my way around Europe. There is a great UK Company called Dialaflight that offer flights, hotels and travel ideas for those European cities and other cities around the world.

Now one of the coolest things in the history of man is those large structures in Egypt called the Pyramids. I might have to check on flights to Egypt and see if I could afford such a trip. I don’t think the television and movies that we watch, that shows Egypt’s Pyramids give them true justice. I believe to see them in person would be so much more breath-taking; than just to see them on the television or movie screens. It’s unbelievable to think of all the time and effort those Egyptians put into making those mammoth structures that are still pretty much intact today. I don’t think you could just spend one day there and would need a whole week to take in the Pyramids and other attractions that Egypt has to offer. For now it still remains on my to-do list, but look forward to the day I might get to see some of these foreign destinations in person.

NHL All Star Game In Atlanta

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

The NHL has chosen the capital of the South to host their 2008 All Star Game. You will be able to see all the legends and young stars of the NHL in Atlanta on January 26th and January 27th. Some of the stars like Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin and Atlanta’s own Ilya Kovalchuk will be in Atlanta on January 26-27. This is the first time my state and city has had the honor of hosting the NHL All Star Game. I’m really excited to see how the city of Atlanta does in taking care of all the festivities associated around All Star Weekend.

The SuperSkills Competiton is something I look forward to every year. Seeing these amazing athletes determine which one is the fastest on the ice and just which NHL All Star has the best accuracy with their shot. This is a great time for the city of Atlanta and we look forward to making this one of the best NHL All Star Weekends ever! This is truly going to be a once in a lifetime event for the people in Georgia. We even get to root for some of our own guys in the big game like Marian Hossa and Ilya Kovalchuk. This exciting weekend is going to be here in less than 10 days and I can’t wait! GO EAST!!!

Macon, Georgia

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Macon, Georgia is located in the heart of Georgia. Atlanta is more toward the north of Georgia and from a geography standpoint Macon is more centralized in Georgia than Atlanta is. Macon was established in 1823 and it’s where all the crossroads in the South would come together at. Macon has just a little bit of everything and there is the city life side to Macon and enough undeveloped land to make you feel like you’re in the country. Macon is known as the “Cherry Blossom Capital of the World” with all the Yoshino cherry trees that can be found in Macon.

Macon is home to various museums and major attractions. You can find the Cannonball House, the Hay House and the Woodruff House in Macon, Georgia. The Georgia State Fair is an annual event in Macon and the Cherry Blossom Festival happens each year in Macon too. You can take part in the next Cherry Blossom Festival this spring and it happens every spring in Macon. The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame is located in Macon. I am a huge sports fan and living about 2 hours north of Macon, I have never been to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. I would like to go there sometime and see some of the legendary athletes from the state of Georgia. Georgia has been a rich source of athletes in all sports and it’s great they have a Georgia Sports Hall of Fame to showcase all the great athletes in the Peach State. The music lovers can take advantage of their own hall of fame that can be found in Macon too. The Georgia Music Hall of Fame is located in Macon, Georiga and some of the best musical talents from the state of Georgia are on display there.

Those interested in the performing arts can take advantage of the theaters located in Macon. The Grand Opera House, Theater Macon, Macon Symphony Orchestra, Macon Little Theater and Macon Arts Alliance are just some of the great perfroming arts places you can take in. These places will bring out the artist in anybody. The Douglass Theater is another great place to take in if your traveling through Macon. Some of the early great jazz players and blues players performed at the Douglass Theater. Some of the performers have included Otis Redding, James Brown, Little Richard, Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith. The Douglass Theater now serves as an educational platform teaching local children and school groups in the area about it’s rich history.

Macon has just a little bit of everything and if your ever traveling through Georgia and you go South of Atlanta, you will probably run into the town of Macon, Georgia.
