Better Gas Mileage Needed
Technology Source No Comments »I don’t think our SUV’s and big cars are going to be able to survive much longer. Gas prices have hit a new all time high. This is the highest gas prices have ever been in the U.S.. A lot of people are starting to feel the pinch of these higher gas prices. We have proven so far, that we will not cut our driving down. As the prices rise, we just keep driving the way we want. Those things may be changing very soon, if these prices get any higher.
There is some new technology in place for cars to use less gas, or to use alternative fuels like ethanol. Ethanol is a gas that can be made from grass, trees, corn, or other things that we have in our natural environment. Many places in the midwest already have ethanol pumps in place. Since corn is grown a lot in the midwest, it makes things easier to get the corn to the ethanol plants. The East and West Coast it’s not as simple to get all the corn needed to make the ethanol. There are plans in place to produce more ethanol plants on the West and East Coasts.
Trains is about the only way ethanol can be shipped to the coasts. So it’s not a very convenient way of getting it there. That is why ethanol pumps are very rare on the coasts. This will change as the demand for ethanol increases, to fight the higher gas prices. We are a nation that is realiant on oil from foreign countries. This makes us vulnerable to price increases. Hopefully with better gas mileage on cars, and the use of alternative fuels, we will be able to stop the rapid increases at the pump.
