The Best NCAA Football Player in 2011

Was there ever any doubts? Well maybe. Since Stanford and the weak Pac 12 started with their big hype and big money sponsors and boosters, they were trying to give Andrew Luck the Heisman Trophy in the summer of 2011. Luck is not going to be a super star NFL quarterback. Once a coach has to come out and defend his player and tell the country he is really a good football player, you know there is some problems there. Andrew Luck may go number 1, but he will never be anything on Sundays. My guess is, we are looking at the next Matt Leinert. Your coach won’t have to defend you, if you go out and play like a superstar every game or at least every other game. Mr. Luck from the land of the Cardinal in California, has manage to choke against average competition, from the 1 or 2 teams he saw this year in the NCAA Men’s Football League. He gets one more shot to prove his self in the 2011 Orange Bowl. He will have to face a tough ACC Men’s team and not a boy’s team from the Pac 12. Kirk Herbstreet and Lee Corso feel like the ACC is a weak NCAA football division. Just wait fellers. I can already see it. Luck not impressive against the Virginia Tech Hokies, but head coach still convinced he is the best player and quarterback in college football.

I took a non-bias vote in the Heisman Trophy Award for 2011. The best football player I saw playing on Saturdays, was the QB from Baylor. Robert Griffin III is the type of player, a coach or an NFL GM will want to build their team around. We seen guys like Randall Cunningham, Vince Young, and Michael Vick do their thing on Sundays in the NFL. I think Griffin is more willing to be a true quarterback and will have similar success as these guys. Also, Cam Newton from Auburn is a one man show in Carolina. What NFL franchise would pass on Cam Newton now? Robert Griffin from Baylor is not as big or physical as Cam Newton is, but can make up for that, with his 4.3 speed on the field. He can run just fast enough, to be a everyday QB in the National Football League.

The second best player in the country is a close one. I still like Trent Richardson from Alabama in the number 2 hole, with the LSU Tigers secondary player going 3rd on the list. All 3 guys, Tyrann Mathieu, Trent Richardson, and the 2011 Heisman Trophy Winner, will be solid players for their NFL Teams in the coming years. And without a doubt, all 3 are better than Andrew Luck. Just think of “Leniert” each time you hear the name “Andrew Luck” and you will avoid this Pac 12 QB like the plague. Just watch the Hokies (college football team) take down and knock around this “NFL QB“.

Chipper Jones Gone for 2010 Season

Chipper is out and this is probably the best news for the Atlanta Braves. A team that was relying on a .260 hitter over the last 1 1/2 seasons to bat in the number 3 hole was not good. Now the team can put a much more productive lineup on the field. It may have took some injuries to save Bobby Cox this year. The Braves manager is now coaching in his last days as a MLB coach. It’s been a very disappointing time for Cox and the Braves; while in Atlanta. The team has only managed to win one World Series in the last 20 years and even that was a bit shaky. A lot of clubs would take a World Series title every 20 years, but when you get to the post season 14 times and only win once? It’s proof that Bobby Cox never was anything special and a Ted Turner bought team in a sport where the biggest spender gets the best players.

Martin Prado will be allowed to come back in a few days, if his broken finger is better. The Braves will need him, if they hope to hold off the charging Phillies team in the NL East Race. I know when the Braves take on the Dodgers Friday night, this should be how their starting lineup should look:

1. Omar Infante 3B

2. Melky Cabrerra RF

3. Brian McCann C

4. Matt Diaz LF

5. Eric Hinske 1B

6. Brooks Conrad 2B

7. Rick Ankiel CF

8. Alex Gonzalez SS

9. Tim Hudson P

I know Bobby Cox will not play it this way. If Jason Heyward is available to play, I might still go with this line up, just to see how they would do. If I was going to insert Heyward in right field for Cabrerra; then I would move Conrad or Hinske to the 2nd spot and let Heyward hit 5th or 6th in the line up.

There should be some clear roles in the line up now; which I know Cox won’t see it, as he thought Gonzalez was a good fit in the 3rd spot yesterday in Houston. Infante should lead off every game. Even when Martin Prado returns, still let Infante be the lead-off guy with Prado hitting 2nd. Brian McCann is your everyday guy in the 3rd spot of the order; while Matt Diaz would be an everyday cleanup hitter (4th). Alex Gonzalez must bat 8th every game; unless he starts to get hot, but clearly the weakest hitter right now, despite being the team’s leading home run hitter. Glaus stays on the bench and Hinske is given a chance to be the everyday first baseman; while Matt Diaz becomes the team’s permanent left fielder. I like Ankiel in center, but Cabrerra is available for back up duties there and can be your top bat off the bench.

I think the Chipper Jones injury now gives the Braves team a real chance at holding off the Phillies in the National League East Race. Let’s see what production we get from the 3rd base position, because we know for the last year and a half, only a few home runs and a .260 batting average has came from that spot. Now I get a real shot to prove, that I can coach better than Bobby Cox, because Chipper would be riding my bench right now. If the 3rd base position hits .270 and puts up 3 home runs from now until the end of the year, then I win!

The D-Day Anniversary

Many veterans and those that served in the military will always hold a very special place in their heart for this day in June. It was in the early morning hours of June 6th, when the U.S.A., U.K., and their allies would launch one of the most massive military strikes the World has ever seen. It was the invasion of Normandy in France and this is better known as D-Day. The attack would last from the first sight of daylight that day and would continue on for the rest of the day. Days and even weeks after the initial invasion on June 6th, the Allied Forces was still sending in troops and supplies on the coast of Normandy, France. A lot of good men lost their life that day from the Allied side. It was a devastating blow to the German Army and Hitler and his fighting men were caught totally off-guard by the huge invasion that was led by the Americans and British on June 6th. It would be another year later, before they would drop the big bombs on the two Japanese cities; which would be the final ending to a war that lasted many years. People that were alive in the 1940′s decade can remember a few key dates very well. It seems everyone remembers the bombs that were unleashed over the skies of Japan and the D-Day invasion in France on June 6th, 1944. The most famous date in World War II that every American can remember like the back of their hand, was on a Sunday. It was just after lunch time for those living on the East Coast, when they would hear the news coming out of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Around 8AM local time in Hawaii, the Japanese Navy launched a deadly surprise attack on the U.S. forces and the people living in Hawaii. It was on December 14th, 1941 when this took place and President Roosevelt would later say in a speech to the American public; that it would be a day that would live in infamy and he was absolutely right about that. Just about every American living at the time, can remember where they were at and what they were doing, when they learned Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor. It was shortly after when the United States officially declared war on Japan and would officially enter World War II; which was already in progress. No one will ever forget December 14th and I’m glad a lot still remember June 6th too, because it was a very powerful invasion, but one that would cost many American and British lives that day on the beaches of Normandy.

Creating My Own Worm Bed at Home

I have been digging up worms around the house and putting them in a 5 gallon bucket. I would guess I probably found at least 100 worms. I’m hoping the size of my earthworm collection grows over time. I am looking to go fishing soon and I wanted to have a big supply of worms to go fishing with. Especially if I decide to go bream fishing. It’s pronounced “brim“, but I know the spelling is bream. These are small fish that stay near the shoreline, so they won’t get eat by the bigger fish in the lakes and rivers. Bream are good to eat, if you can catch them big enough. It’s fun to fish for bream, because you can throw out your line and have a bite almost instantly. Bream will attack your bait fast and no patience needed. You might get lucky and attract a big bass; while you’re bream fishing. So be sure you keep a close eye on the fishing pole, if you go bream fishing. I need to save up a few more worms and I plan to go real soon. I feed my worms table scraps. I give them pretty much everything, but I don’t allow no meats or cheeses to get in their dirt. I mainly just used the vegetables and breads that we have left over after dinners to feed them. The food breaks down in the soil and becomes a great source of food for the worms. These worms also help to make the soil rich, so I will probably use my worm dirt to grow some plants in. Don’t ever spend money on worms again for fishing. Just start your own worm bed in something today, so you will have worms on hand when you decide to go fishing.

Catfish from the Cracker Barrel

Cracker Barrel is the restaurant that is known as the country store. I have ate at Cracker Barrel many times, but never tried their catfish fillets before. Until today, I decided to give them a try and they were pretty good. You have two options when you order the catfish at Cracker Barrel. You can get your catfish grilled or fried. I went with the fried catfish fillets. I like catfish in general, but prefer the bone to be left in. Fish bones give fish a better taste and it seems the bones add to the flavor; while cooking the catfish. I’m picky on filets and normally they don’t taste right for me. The fried catfish fillets at Cracker Barrel met my approval rating for fish fillets.

You can get 3 side items when you select the catfish at Cracker Barrel. I assume it is like this for all Cracker Barrel restaurants. The meat loaf is good at Cracker Barrel and I knew it came with 3 side items. Normally you get 2 sides with your meat, but for the catfish or meat loaf, they will give you a 3rd side and there is no extra charge. I ate french fries, fried okra, and green beans as my 3 side items. My mama loves the hashbrown casserole at Cracker Barrel, so she gave me a little of that to try. I was pretty full after eating 2 pieces of fried catfish fillets, green beans, okra, french fries, hashbrown casserole, and a biscuit. It was a good meal and I did enjoy it. I probably won’t get any good food for tomorrow, so I will have to enjoy this Cracker Barrel meal for a long time.
