Gas & Oil Prices Loom Near

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

It seems the oil market has a shortage right now and some gas station might be running out of petro soon. This will cause a spike in oil prices and you may be paying more at the pump now. Consumers can’t win with oil and gas prices and it seems this is always going to be a problem for us. The summer months when most people travel always have a higher price to pay at the gas pumps and it has started very early this year and we might not see relief until the fall season of 2009. I think gas is still cheap for the moment and anything under $2.50 a gallon should be considered a bargain. We may be paying over 4 dollars a gallon soon and this wouldn’t be the first time gas has reached such high levels.

Buying a few gas cans and stocking up on gas that is selling for under 2 bucks isn’t a bad idea. You might not get your money’s worth this year, but if you continue to use your gas cans, I’m sure they will be a wise investment. If anyone has the extra money to buy 5 to 10 extra gas cans or containers to stock up on fuel; now would be a good time to do so. You can save money now by investing in oil and saving your own supply at home. Make sure to use real gas containers for storage, because other products may harm the gas or your car if the bad gas gets into the engine. We have to think ahead when it comes to oil prices and they are going to rise sharply in the coming weeks. Prepare now if have the money to do so and it will save you money down the road.

Hawks Searching for a Playoff Birth

Monday, March 9th, 2009

The NBA is a magical league this time of the year. There are so many teams trying to get one of those top 8 spots in either the Western or Eastern conferences. The West has proven to be a battleground over the last few years and this year is no exception. It’s a little different in the East and teams can actually have losing records or a record below 500 and still make one of those top 8 spots; that lead to the NBA playoffs.

The Atlanta Hawks had the worse record out of all of the playoff teams and they gave the Boston Celtics a great 7 game series in the playoffs. It’s a little different for the young Hawk’s team this year and they are above 500 for the year and currently have the 4th seed in the Eastern division. They are trying real hard to hold on to that spot, because only the top 4 seeds get home court advantage in the first round and the Hawks feel they really need that this year. They didn’t lose a game last year on their home floor during the playoffs, so maybe the home cooking this year can get them to the 2nd round.

The Miami Heat hopes to move up to that 4th spot too in the East and they are working really hard to win games right now. The leading scorer in the NBA this year has been Dwayne Wade and the Heat is heavily relying on him right now. The Miami Heat have more road games left on their schedule; while the Hawks get to enjoy the most home games left in the NBA. They did take a positive step on Saturday night beating the Detroit Pistons and that was a really close game for Atlanta.

The whole NBA has a lot of close matchups for the teams trying to make the playoffs or just trying to get a higher seed. The Los Angeles Lakers are flying high in the tough Western conference and they lead all other NBA teams in win this year. Basketball is going to be fun to watch in the NBA and it should be interesting to see where the Atlanta Hawks end up seeded in the playoffs. All of those Hawk’s home games will be against a lot of good opponents and they will have to face this year’s best team in the Los Angeles Lakers and last year’s champ Boston Celtics will also be appearing in Atlanta this year. The fans in Atlanta are excited and basketball is on everyone’s mind these days that visit Philips Arena.

Super Bowl Weekend

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

The big weekend has arrived and the teams are ready to play some football on Sunday. Arizona and Pittsburgh have traveled two different roads to get to Tampa Bay, but they have met every challenge thrown at them so far and now their roads meet in Florida. One team will live up to the hype and go on to be crown champs of the National Football League. The other team will have to go train a little harder and prepare a little better for next season and see if they can win the 2010 Super Bowl. Really both teams are already winners and no losers play on Super Bowl Sunday.

Fans all across the nation become Cardinal or Steelers fans for the day and everyone chooses their sides during Super Bowl weekend. My heart likes an underdog, so I will be rooting for the Arizona Cardinals to win, but my brain tells me that the Pittsburgh Steelers will be unstoppable on Sunday.

I hope everyone has a big screen television to watch the game on and you have plenty of food by your side watching the Super Bowl. I think pizza and hot wings are on the menu for me and I might even throw in a few bread sticks or cheese sticks with my game time meal. What do consumers like to eat for the Super Bowl? It seems chicken and pork items are the best meat sellers for Super Bowl weekend and a good time to be a potato farmer too. Lots of french fries and potato chips get eat on Sunday and people may eat more potatoes on this day, than any other single food item out there. Pepperoni might be second and it could even be cheese as the 2nd most consumed item on this day that everybody watches football on. Don’t eat too much and I hope your team wins on Sunday!

The Holiday Rush is On

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Shoppers are on the hunt for the best bargains in December. Everyone is searching for those great deals they can take advantage of, so they can buy friends, family, and co-workers Christmas presents this holiday season. I think shopping is a good way to get in the Christmas spirit and I always get a rush while shopping in the stores just before Christmas.

Retailers want your money, so they are lowering prices right now. Many say prices are like the early 1990′s, due to the weak economy right now. I think we will see a lot of after Christmas specials too and the smart consumers may just wait until after the holiday season to find the best deals in 2008. I think technology and those electronic gadgets are really popular this year and the retailers offering these products may just have the best holiday numbers. Clothing retailers always do well at Christmas time and I’m sure it will be no different this year.

If you know of any great bargains that consumers may not be aware of; then please be sure to reply to this blog post and let us know what they are. I think everyone is interested in sales offline and online this year. I’m still searching for some of these bargains and I haven’t seen any that made me pull out the credit card yet. I think the sales are just now beginning and the closer we make it to Christmas Day is probably going to be the better sales that start to appear. Make sure you keep an eye on the TV channels that you can buy gifts from and many of the tv shows will be having great deals for shoppers. I like watching the shopping channels on television during the Christmas time and I have found good deals in the past on television. So many places to shop this year, just make sure you compare prices and you can rest assure that you’re buying the item at the lowest price possible. Good luck on searching for the deals out there and please be sure to let me know of the ones you took advantage of this holiday season.

Sears Heroes at Home Wish Registry

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

The Sears Heroes at Home Wish Registry is a great a great way to donate your money this Christmas. I know charities of all sorts come to mind for the holidays and we all make an extra effort to give during the holiday season. So many great places are available to take your money for feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, and helping those people without a home this winter. I’m glad to see Sears, a big department store with many locations throughout the country, step up this holiday season and lead their own charity campaign. This is a super cause and one that I think will get a lot of support this holiday season and beyond.

The Sears Heroes are the same as our own heroes serving in the military. They are the family members of the brave people serving our country and they need our help. These families are faced with the daily horror stories that we hear on the news each day and they watch this knowing that their loved ones are in harm’s way and wonder if they might be the next horror story making the news. It’s not just the worries that trouble our military families, but the extra pressures of trying to pay the bills and raise the kids while dad or mom is off overseas serving America. It can make the financial situation very difficult at times and with Christmas fast approaching, this is one of those times. Let’s help these people have a great Christmas this year and donate money to this worthy cause Sears has put together. We can be heroes too if we can find it in our hearts and wallets this year; to give a little money to the family members of our brave men and women that won’t be coming home this holiday season. It’s hard to keep things going on the home front when a mom, dad, brother, or sister is not there to help. We can step in for our soldiers this year and help their families out by donating to the Sears Heroes at Home Wish Registry. This is a very worthy cause and a donation to the families of military personnel, is much like a donation or investment into our own country and the values we stand for today. Let’s make this Christmas a very special one to those that really deserve donations and the military families of our country are at the top of the list!

Tracking Fast Food

Monday, November 17th, 2008

It seems there is a bit of a conspiracy uproar in the fast food community. We as consumers are not allowed to see how the cow goes from the farm to our number 1 value meal. I’m not sure what the big secret could be, but if restaurants like McDonalds, Wendys, and Burger King are not giving out this information, it does make one wonder why. Wendys restaurant says they can’t release the information because of the competition. I guess they don’t want other big fast food chains to know that Farmer John in Iowa sells his cows cheaper than Farmer Jake in Oklahoma. Since we live in the age of lawsuits and contracts, I’m sure they are some contracts that get signed between the farmers and fast food restaurants and I’m not buying this reason.

We are the ones that order those happy meals for our kids, the big whopper sandwich from Burger King and the hot chilli from Wendys and they all have ground beef or red meat from cows in them. We have the right to know how these animals are treated on the farm and what they are fed. Many believe these animals are not being treated right and only being fed corn, instead of a more natural meal of grass and other greens growing in the pasteurs. The fast food restaurants don’t want us to know how the animals are being treated, because they know they would lose business if their customers found out about the miserable conditions these cows are being left to deal with. The chicken industry has the same problems too and the chickens aren’t being treated as well as they could be either.

If the big fast food restaurants won’t give up the information on all the steps from the farm to our dinner plates, I think it’s time we make a stand and put them in their place. Until they release step by step accounts and what food and water sources are being given to these animals, I will no longer eat at Wendys, McDonalds, or Burger King. These are the 3 restaurants you should stay away from, until more light can be shed on their butchering practices and what steps they take to insure they are doing what’s right for these poor defenseless cows.

Atlanta to Face Fuel Problems for the Rest of the Year

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Information is not properly being placed right now to the concerns of gas and fuel shortages in Georgia and the metro Atlanta area. The fuel problems at the pump will not be resolved anytime soon and all Georgia drivers need to take precautions now. You should keep your gas tanks as full as possible and also seek your own ways of stocking up on gas right now. If you don’t have a gas can, you really should buy a couple right now and fill them up on your next trip to a gas station that has gas. The problems in the South with gas shortages is only getting worse and these gas problems may extend well past Halloween and we might even be having these issues during Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. We haven’t seen the worse of the gas crisis in Atlanta and all Atlanta drivers better stock up on gas while it last in Georgia. The gas supply in our region is very low and it will take months to get things back up to normal capacity. The local news media in Atlanta is relaying bad information to the public right now and things would be better if we all rationed at the pumps. The people that try to ration at the pumps, will be the same people that can’t go to work or will be on the side of the road with no gas. You should be buying gas in gas cans right now and creating your own storage supplies. The leaders in Georgia and the oil executives has already let us down in Atlanta and surrounding areas and it’s time we take control of our own situations. If you need gas to do your daily tasks and to help bring in money to your household; you really need to create your own fuel storage supplies. Stop what your doing now and find gas cans and containers that will allow you to have at least a 10 gallon supply of gas at home and to keep your gas tanks as full as possible. Don’t stop buying gas until you see every gas station with gas. This is the easiest way to determine how serious the problem is and as long as you see gas stations that have no gas, means you need to continue to top off and buy extra supplies of gas to be kept at home. Don’t be surprised if Trick or Treating is called off for Halloween and this should give you an idea of just how close we are to fixing these problems. The gas crisis in Georgia is long from being over with and there are no improvements as of right now.

Every Penny Counts

Friday, August 1st, 2008

It doesn’t matter how low the savings might be, a penny saved is a penny earned. We all forget to save those pennies and it only costs us dollars down the road. Money is too hard to come by these days; for us to not take a little more time on how we spend it. A simple way to start is at the grocery store. We all could clip a few coupons from newspapers or find them online and that is a great way to save pennies right there. Over a year’s time of spending coupons at the grocery store each time, we would have enough to buy a steak dinner to a fine restaurant and that would be one less meal we would have to buy at the grocery store. Saving money and earning money is two ways to obtain money and it can compound really fast over an extended period of time. Perhaps you know of some other great ways to save money? Please share your tips on how we can save more cash and we can learn something from each other. Every penny does count and those pennies will lead to dollars!
