I know I have been watching a lot of the Olympics and it’s fun to see all the different countries competing in China. I think the event I like best is the men’s basketball. I really like the USA team or Redeem Team as they are being called this year. Seeing all the guys like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Dwayne Wade and Carmelo Anthony on the same floor is exciting. I’m not sure why the Utah Jazz players are there and it seems like Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams is wasted space. Their play on the court proves that too and Williams and Boozer are clearly out-matched with the talent level on their team. Kick the Jazz players off and replace Carlos Boozer with a real athlete like Josh Smith of the Atlanta Hawks and then you have a nice front line. You could go get a Ray Allen, Tracy McGrady or Allen Iverson to replace Deron Williams who has struggled the most on the Redeem Team in the 2008 Olympics. The USA men’s team has a lot of weapons and I hope they can win the gold this year in China.

I also like the women’s team and its fun to know that no team has ever beaten them. Good job girls and I am rooting for you too and I hope you bring back a gold medal to the United States too. I think swimming has been popular this year and no wonder with Michael Phelps winning all the gold medals. Michael Phelps has won more overall gold medals than any other athlete ever and in 2008 he won more gold medals than any other person has in the same Olympic year. The USA women get to play Brazil on Thursday for the Gold Medal in soccer, but I really doubt they can beat Marta and that Brazilian team she is on. Marta is the best female soccer player in the world and I think Brazil is in the driver’s seat to win the gold medal in soccer. Let’s just hope the USA can pull a upset and keep Marta covered for 90 minutes. I wish we could use our MLB baseball players to play for our Olympic team, but the guys out there now are doing a great job. So those are a few things that come to my mind when I think about the 2008 Olympics that is currently underway in Beijing, China. What are some of your favorite events or athletes in this year’s Olympics?

The prices at the pump are going down across the country, but we are still paying more than 1 dollar per gallon as compared to this time last year. It’s nice to see gas under 4 dollars a gallon and I think a lot of us would be real happy to see gas go back under 3 dollars a gallon. The stock market still seems to have a few problems that is holding it back from really taking off. It’s possible we could see a surge in stocks this winter around the holiday season, but there is nothing there to indicate that stocks will be up for the rest of 2008.

The best thing is to continue to add our extra money into the stocks and funds we are currently invested in. There are bargains across the board on Wall Street and you want to add new money into your portfolios when stocks are down like this. People that are on the verge of retiring might want to hold off until things become more clear, but for most of us that have 10+ years or more until our retirement, can continue to be aggressive and if you are investing money you don’t need until retirement, now is a good time to show some of that aggression. The drug companies and technology stocks look like solid investments for the remainder of this year. The retail stocks look like a safe bet and I believe the banking and credit card stocks would be a wise choice to start focusing on more too. You don’t have to look hard for the bargains in the stock market; now if we can just say the same thing about the price of oil at the pumps!

These are some of the best of Alex videos thus far and now you can help pick out which one is the very best. Is there one video that stands above all the other ones? The 16 year-old Alex continues to display great musical talents over at You Tube and she has a nice collection of videos to watch that show some of those talents. Alex’s video career started 18 months ago on Feb. 8th of 2007 and she kicked off things that day with a show she called “The Unbelievable Show“. It lasted for 2 video uploads with a 3rd video announcing the cancellation of her show. Soon after that Alex would start singing in front of the webcam and the rest was history. She began mostly adding videos of her singing ability and soon a huge following would start to keep up with YouTube videos she was uploading. As her fan base grew, so did her popularity and now she is one of the more visible stars at You Tube that has made her into the YouTube Sensation she is today.

It has been a joy to watch all of Alex’s videos that she has uploaded over the months. We can now take a break and look back on all of the videos and see just how much talent this teenager possesses. You can also see the improvements and strides she has made with each video and see that she is getting better with each new video that follows the last one. She really does work well in front of the camera and you can see she is fearless when it comes to singing. Anyone in the world can be seeing these great videos via YouTube and it just makes you wonder when the right person will see them and get her on the path to becoming a world-wide sensation instead of the YouTube fame she has only got to this point. It isn’t just the singing that Alex likes and playing and composing music are also big interests of hers too. She is taking all the steps needed to be the complete package on stage and her versatility will work well in the years to come when she has the chance to focus more closely on just one facet of the music industry.

Some stars just never burn out and they only get brighter. That is true in the case with Alex and your still getting to witness a star in the making as she continues down this musical path. There is 5 very good videos above and these are some of the best ones she has done to this point. We really haven’t seen the best video or singing performance yet and it’s only a matter of time until the above videos are replaced with 5 more that are better than those! If you like to take out on the water from time to time then you know it’s very important to have the best boating supplies possible. Getting stuck on the water isn’t like your car breaking down. A perfect game in bowling is something I have never did. I really haven’t even come close to the magical 300 mark that all bowlers strive to get one day. A strike is not uncommon for beginners or professional bowlers, but when you can do that 12 times in a row it is very special. I just hope that if I ever do manage to string 12 strikes together, that I can have someone there to witness it. I would say the chances of bowling 300 are a lot like a golfer hitting a hole in one. It can be done, but the chances are very remote that you will ever do it. You also want someone there to see a hole in one if you ever manage that feat too. Now I am a better pool player, so making the 8 ball or 9 ball off the break is something I have done many times. I have also manage to run the table in both games and it’s a special feeling in pool when you can break the balls and run out from the break. I don’t think my roll in bowling is consistent enough to get a 300, but it would be nice to go into the 10th frame just knowing I had a shot at it. You would still have to bowl a turkey (3 strikes in a row) in the 10th frame to cap off the perfect 300 game in bowling. I guess a opportunity like this would be one that I might pass on, because the pressure would be tremendous if I ever did bowl 9 strikes in a row. I’m not sure what my high score is, but it seems like I managed a 250 something one time and if I wasn’t bowling a strike, then I was picking up the spare and you must close all your frames to have a super high score like 250.

So what are the most important things you do or take with you, when you know you have a long flight ahead? I know some people prefer to stay awake long before it’s time for their departure, so once they board the plane they can fall fast asleep. Others prefer to bring the newspapers, magazines, books or things to occupy their minds; while they make that long trip in the sky. Please feel free to share your long flight tips and things that help make the time more pleasurable. I do have one tip that I think would work for the sleeper or the reader on those long airplane trips that have to be made from time to time. It doesn’t matter if you’re awake or asleep on a flight and you’re pretty much confined to a small area that allows limited movement. Not being able to stir around can cause our body temperatures to drop and we can start to feel a little nippy. The Cabin Cuddler is the perfect solution to this problem! I have recently heard several reports that cell phones could be a danger to our little ones. Cell phones are still new to our society and enough time hasn’t passed yet for us to have a clear idea on the health risks associated with cell phone usuage. Apparently they are signs of radiation entering the brain when we talk on our cell phones. This could lead to humans having more brain tumors in the future and that seems to be the biggest concern right now. Since kids are still growing and haven’t fully developed their bone structure yet, it could possibly be doing them more harm than we know. A young child’s skull is much thinner than those in adults and the bone density could be a factor. Radiation from cell phones might be harming us all but the kids might be getting the worse of it.

If radiation from cell phones concern you and now you’re worried about your child’s safety, there is other people out there that totally deny these allegations. Some people say the radiation is so small coming from cell phones that it would take more than 100 years to see any effects from it and these would be the people that use cell phones constantly. Our own sun sends down radiation daily and if you walk outside, you are more than likely getting some. That is the reason we have all of the sun tan lotions and sun blockers on the market to help prevent some of these harmful rays. No one should be spending most of their days in the sun unprotected, because we know this is not safe. Maybe until we learn more about the radiation associated with cell phones, we should limit our use of them each day. Sometimes it’s better to be safer than sorry and I think this would qualify for one of those times.

The summer just doesn’t last as long these days as it did when I was going to school. We had a full 3 months of summer vacation and now the kids are lucky to get a 2 month vacation from school. I never did like going to school much, but I did get excited right when it was time to go back. I was always eager to wear my new school clothes I just bought for going back to school and seeing what girls I could attract for the upcoming school year. The first week back to school takes some time to adjust to. I know my sleeping pattern for summers was to stay up late and sleep late; which meant waking up close to noon. I would wake up around 6 AM when I was going to school and the night before school would begin on day 1, I wouldn’t get to sleep until sometime after midnight. It just wasn’t because that was my normal bedtime for the summer nights, but it’s hard to fall asleep knowing that school starts tomorrow. It’s similar to a kid going to sleep on Christmas Eve night, but the reward in the morning time after you woke up was much different.

If you’re reading my blog post now and your still in school and dreading that first day that is fast approaching; I will say I have different views on school now. I wished I would have did better in school now and if I had the chance to do it all over again, I would study much harder, not to mention adding a 4 year college degree to my academic career. You’re not alone if you don’t like school and there are a lot of stresses that come with school. One of the main stresses is simply the school work and it’s the one that is the most important and is the reason you are there to begin with. Just listen to the teachers more this year, take notes when you can, do your homework before all the good television shows start coming on and you can relieve a lot of stress just by making better grades. Get organized with your school work and this will help out a lot. Look for a Dymo label maker during your back to school shopping trips and this will be a useful tool that will help out this year. Color labels is a great way to help keep things organized and it comes in handy with keeping your work assignments separate. These handy little labels can be a great way to determine which classes you have homework in, so when the final bell rings for the day to go home, you will quickly know which books you need to take home for that night. I don’t have enough fingers or toes to count all of the times I got home and was ready to do my homework and find out that I forgot to bring the book home. Homework is bad enough as it is; it’s actually worse when you prepare your self to do it and then you don’t have the school books to do it with. So work on being a better student with your grades and you will see that this takes most of the stress out of going to school.

I do hope all of the school kids had a great summer and you were able to do enough that will make it a summer to remember. You will get to see all of your friends again when you go back to school and that was one thing I liked about going back to school. I’m sure there will be some parents that will be glad when the school buses start running again and they can enjoy a little time at the house without the youngsters fussing at each other, hogging the phone, taking up computer time or just being able to watch television in the living room again. It’s ok if you’re not happy about school starting back because the months until the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays will be here before you know it!

It doesn’t matter how low the savings might be, a penny saved is a penny earned. We all forget to save those pennies and it only costs us dollars down the road. Money is too hard to come by these days; for us to not take a little more time on how we spend it. A simple way to start is at the grocery store. We all could clip a few coupons from newspapers or find them online and that is a great way to save pennies right there. Over a year’s time of spending coupons at the grocery store each time, we would have enough to buy a steak dinner to a fine restaurant and that would be one less meal we would have to buy at the grocery store. Saving money and earning money is two ways to obtain money and it can compound really fast over an extended period of time. Perhaps you know of some other great ways to save money?
