Thursday, January 17th, 2008Is American Idol losing it’s steam? I don’t see as many blogs or advertisements on the computer or television for them like you usually see at the start of a new season. I wonder if its because of the earlier start than last year. I believe it was last year or the year before when they started on Super Bowl Sunday. That was big advertisement for them and to come on the coat tail of the most watched sporting event every year. I’m sure the people involved with American Idol didn’t purposely choose to go before the Super Bowl and would have love the Super Bowl attention to their show.
No matter how you cut it, American Idol is back and I’m sure millions and millions of people all over the world are tuning in to hear the amazing performances by the great amateur singers they have and to laugh at the ones that have no singing talent whatsoever. I don’t have much talent as a singer, so I know where my talents would land me on American Idol. I would be one of those people that wouldn’t even get to finish their song and would be begging to the judges “oh wait; it gets better, just let me finish”. I guess you can either sing or you can’t. It should be interesting to see what new star emerges from the smoke of American Idol the most popular show on the tube and almost watched by as many people that tune in for the Super Bowl each year.

Fishing Supplies in the Winter
Tuesday, January 15th, 2008I love to get outdoors and do a little fishing. I always like to find a good deal on fishing supplies and the rod and reels. I was thinking with the drought we are having right now, if the rivers and lakes might be low enough to find some good fishing lures. I bet they are some for the taking if anybody is willing to get out there and walk up and down the river and lake beds. It would be wise to put on some old clothes and shoes, because your probably going to get a little muddy or dirty doing this.
Since I am the lazy type I would just prefer to find some good deals. Now that we are in the middle of winter, I wonder if the places that carry fishing supplies would have some good deals? They are probably already ahead of me and I bet the stores are now stocking up on all the fishing bait, fishing line, fishing lures and those sankers; so they can be ready to serve the first fishermen of the season. I bet the best time to find the bargains would actually be in the Fall time of they year. Stores will want to clear and free up space for the Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays that will be approaching and to get rid of the fishing supplies would make sense. I bet the stores really mark down the prices, so that they can free up that extra space. I usually purchase my items in the spring and I’m sure there are more people like me. We are probably paying the full price for the fishing items we’re buying and if we could just force our self to shop during the Fall, we could have everything we needed come Spring time. It’s hard to buy things that you won’t be using for 6 months, but it probably is the best way to save money on fishing supplies.

What is going to be new is the amount of advertisers that’s going to start using these pay per play ads to promote their companies or products with. This is a great way to show traffic coming to your blog and building up the subscribers you might have to your blog. You don’t want to be blogging about something and no one ever reads your blog. You want your voice to be heard by as many people as possible. So getting your blog’s link on another blog or website is a great way to drive more traffic to your blogs. Each time you get your link on somebody else’s webpage, is the chance that more people will be coming to your blog from that link.
Now the search engines love this stuff and they look for websites that have a lot of links directing toward them. If the search engines see a lot of links pointing toward your blog, they then rank your blog high in the search engines, thinking that you have some good information that people are wanting to see. Once you get your blog or posts from your blog high in the search engines, that is when you can really start to attract more and more readers to your blog. People from all over the world then have the opportunity to land on your blog and read your thoughts and ideas. User Generated Videos YawpBox
Monday, January 14th, 2008The practice of uploading videos online is becoming more popular everyday. I don’t think no one could have realized the impact of this industry and how user generated content could cover up the web. A lot of the popular places you can go to online now has millions of videos to look through and you can see just about anything you want from their users. Now YawpBox might have just taken the online videos we see everyday to a new level. They are creating tv shows that get filmed in Dallas, Texas in front of a live studio audience. This is the first time anybody has ever created a tv show, where the content of the show is all done by users online; that are creating these user generated videos. This is a great opportunity for people to get their 15 minutes of fame and all by just creating a video in the comforts of their home.
I got my 15 minutes of fame last year when I won a big screen television. Not only did I get a big screen television, but I had a cameraman show up at my door while it was being delivered. He filmed me receiving the television and also bobbing for peaches to win some extra cash too! You can still see that video of me doing this on one of the most popular places online to view user generated videos. Now others will be able to get their 15 minutes of fame and they will get to be on a television show! I think this is a great idea by YawpBox and I believe this will gain in popularity.
Lex and Terry will be doing the commentary of just regular people like you or me, doing things in front of a camera. YawpBox is taking this social networking thing to the television screen and I can see this being very big. I love looking at all the videos online of people singing and playing musical instruments. American Idol is a popular tv show that has amateur singers giving it their all in front of millions and millions of people. You can go to a few of these places that host these videos and see thousands and thousands of amateur singers and you will get that American Idol feel. You get to hear some really talented singers online and you get to hear some pretty bad singers, just like American Idol does!
Not trying to encourage anyone to do stunts in front of a camera, but one of the best videos I have seen online was a stunt video. I seen a guy on roller skates, skate off a two story house and into a swimming pool. It was all caught on camera and I have watched that video a few times online. It was amazing that guy didn’t get seriously hurt or paralyzed, but he survived to be a legend on all the popular video places that kids and even the adults are going to these days. So if you want to be the next star on YawpBox, please do so with your humor or talents and not the stupid stunts that some people try to get attention from.
I really think this YawpBox is going to take off. I think it has everything American Idol has and more, because it just doesn’t have to be people singing. American Idol might have their hands tied to singers, while the sky is the limit for YawpBox!
So do you feel that you’re up to the Lex and Terry Challenge? They will give out an assignment each week for people to create videos with a certain topic or theme in mind. Once they give out the assignment from their radio and tv broadcast, you can create a video for them to use. The videos will then be grouped together and you will be able to find them on their section of the page at YawpBox. This sounds like an opportunity for a lot of people to get their 15 minutes of fame from user generated videos online.
Macon, Georgia
Monday, January 14th, 2008Macon, Georgia is located in the heart of Georgia. Atlanta is more toward the north of Georgia and from a geography standpoint Macon is more centralized in Georgia than Atlanta is. Macon was established in 1823 and it’s where all the crossroads in the South would come together at. Macon has just a little bit of everything and there is the city life side to Macon and enough undeveloped land to make you feel like you’re in the country. Macon is known as the “Cherry Blossom Capital of the World” with all the Yoshino cherry trees that can be found in Macon.
Macon is home to various museums and major attractions. You can find the Cannonball House, the Hay House and the Woodruff House in Macon, Georgia. The Georgia State Fair is an annual event in Macon and the Cherry Blossom Festival happens each year in Macon too. You can take part in the next Cherry Blossom Festival this spring and it happens every spring in Macon. The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame is located in Macon. I am a huge sports fan and living about 2 hours north of Macon, I have never been to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. I would like to go there sometime and see some of the legendary athletes from the state of Georgia. Georgia has been a rich source of athletes in all sports and it’s great they have a Georgia Sports Hall of Fame to showcase all the great athletes in the Peach State. The music lovers can take advantage of their own hall of fame that can be found in Macon too. The Georgia Music Hall of Fame is located in Macon, Georiga and some of the best musical talents from the state of Georgia are on display there.
Those interested in the performing arts can take advantage of the theaters located in Macon. The Grand Opera House, Theater Macon, Macon Symphony Orchestra, Macon Little Theater and Macon Arts Alliance are just some of the great perfroming arts places you can take in. These places will bring out the artist in anybody. The Douglass Theater is another great place to take in if your traveling through Macon. Some of the early great jazz players and blues players performed at the Douglass Theater. Some of the performers have included Otis Redding, James Brown, Little Richard, Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith. The Douglass Theater now serves as an educational platform teaching local children and school groups in the area about it’s rich history.
Macon has just a little bit of everything and if your ever traveling through Georgia and you go South of Atlanta, you will probably run into the town of Macon, Georgia.

Spring Break Time Is Near
Sunday, January 6th, 2008I know its hard to talk about Spring Break with the temperatures outside still below freezing. Or maybe this is a great time to start talking about Spring Break. The kids are already making all their plans on where they want to go for Spring Break. They usually get a week off from their high schools or colleges and head to some place that is warm. I live in Georgia, so a lot of Spring Breakers go to Florida for their fun in the sun. I like Panama City Beach in Florida the best. Miami, Fort Laurderdal and Daytona are fun too, but I have always thought that Panama City had more to do there; than those other beaches in Florida.
So will you be making a trip for your Spring Break vacation? Maybe you just look forward to having the week off and get a chance to take a break from all your studies and the homework you have been doing. I think the best Spring Break I ever had was at Allatoona Lake here in Georgia. Some of my friends and me all packed up and went down there to camp out by the lake and we stayed there for a few days. It was a lot of fun and we didn’t spend much money; compared to a trip to Florida. We would stay up all night and sleep during the day. Once the sun would start going down, it was the best time to be at Allatoona. I love the evening-time down on that lake or any lake really. It’s great because the heat starts to let up from a hot day and the fish start jumping around in the lake too. I would fish all night long and most of the time we would just bait up our rods and leave them out in the lake all night. Someone would always go check the poles around 2 or 3 o’clock in the morning and there would be one rod with a catfish on it. The fish most times probably had hooked itself much earlier and they would swim around the whole lake area and it never failed the catfish would have our rods all tangled up. It would take us hours to try and figure out whose fishing rod caught the fish.
Now with drought in the forecast for much of Georgia, its not likely that Lake Allatoona or Lake Lanier will have any water in them for this Spring Break. I guess the kids now will have to find something else to do in Georgia and maybe they will have to just go down to Florida. They can still go camping, but they don’t have all the fun that the lake can bring to a camping trip. Let me know about your Spring Break plans.
Baseball Card Collecting
Sunday, January 6th, 2008I still have a pretty good size baseball card collection. My collection is actually more than just baseball cards. I have basketball cards, Nascar cards, football cards and hockey cards. I like trying to find the next sports phenom that is going to be good for the next decade or so and collecting as many of his rookie cards as I can. Rookie cards is the best card you can have of any player. It’s their first card and usually that is the one that will be worth the most. Some card companies will produce a limited number of a sports card and those usually book pretty well in the price guides.
A rookie card is like your 1st grade picture or kindegarten picture. Now if I had a picture of all your class mates from your 1st grade class; the amount they would be worth would depend on how the person did in life. The buddies you had in first grade and are now working at fast food restaurants and low paying jobs like that; then their 1st grade photos would not be worth much. If I had a picture of a student that you went to first grade with and they went to Harvard and graduated and they are now a big time attorney; then their first grade photo would be worth a lot of money. That’s the way rookie cards work for those that collect baseball cards. If the player turns out to be a superstar; his rookie card will be worth a lot and if that player doesn’t last long, their card will be cheap.
I haven’t bought any sports cards over the last year or so, but I would like to go out and find some cards of the latest phenoms that are playing in sports right now. Players like Sidney Crosby from the NHL, Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson from the NFL, Kevin Durant and Al Horford from the NBA and Ryan Howard and Prince Fielder from MLB. These are just some of the young players I would like to have their rookie cards. If you can think of a sports phenom that is going to be good in the near future; then please leave a reply and I will look them up! It’s always fun to see who the next superstar is going to be in any sport.
