Jumpers At Golden Gate

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

The Golden Gate Bridge which is located in San Francisco, was built on May 28th, 1937. The bridge which has a world-wide fame, will be turning 70 years old later this month on May 28th. It was built to help connect San Francisco with Marin County. No one could ever imagine that this 1.7 mile long bridge would hold such a prestigious landmark 70 years later. While the bridge has been considered a romantic place of travel, it has a darkside too.

The bridge has become one of the most popular places for people to commit suicide. In fact, there is no where on earth that more people go to die at, than the Golden Gate Bridge. People every year, and just about every month take a leap off the towering structure. It’s about 220 feet from the water at the center-span of the bridge. People’s fascination with the bridge, and getting to the lowest point in their lives is making this bridge a leap of faith for many. Some have survived the plunge off the bridge, but most are killed instantly. The hard impact shatters bones, and send them flying internally in the body, and usually punctures a main organ or causes enough damage that the jumper never takes a breath again.

The conditions in the water make it hard to retrieve the bodies that the bridge leaves every year. Not all bodies are found, leaving the Bay as a graveyard to those that didn’t think that life had nothing else to offer them. While many will be celebrating the bridge turning 70 years old later this month, it will be a grim reminder to the families that have lost loved ones from the Bridge. While the bridge has survived through earthquakes, experts don’t think the bridge would hold up if the epi-center of an earthquake was nearby. Designers are hard at work to get a better structure in place for the bridge, before it is too late.

Where Are the Bees?

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Have you heard about all the honey bees? They are disappearing, and nobody knows why. This is a pretty big story, since honey bees are responsible for so many things. Something as simple as an apple, wouldn’t be around if it wasn’t for honeybees. They help to pollinate many of our fruit trees, and garden plants. Honey bees are a big part of the pollination process, and we would have dramatic changes without the little boogers. Yes, I know they can be annoying, and it hurts to get stung by them, but we need them. Most of us might think of honey when we think of honeybees but they are a vital source to our agriculture.

Now they are disapperaing at an alarming rate, and scientists have yet to put their finger on the problem. There’s been all kinds of suggestions to what’s been going on. Some thought it could be some form of terroist attack, or the cell phone towers could be causing them to disappear. It seems that since we are not finding any dead bees, that they are just getting lost on their routes. Something is causing them to fly away from the hive, and they can’t find their way back to the hive.

There’s now a term that has been named to this problem. It’s called Colony Collapse Disorder. CCD is hard to cure, since we don’t know exactly what the problem is. There have been about 5 new diseases that have been found in honeybees recently. Some of these diseases can break down the immune system, and be like a person that is suffering from Aids. Their immune systems can be weaken, and couldn’t fight off these diseases. It’s not exactly sure what’s causing this to happen.

Since farmers have recently been using new chemicals to kill weeds and bugs from crops. It’s possible that some of these new chemicals might be responsible for what’s going on with the honey bees. This will be something that has to be corrected in the near future, or we might have to do without some of the things that we have been accustomed to. So take care of the honey bees out there!

Romantic Love Letters

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Are you in the romantic mood? If you are looking for a little romance in your life, or want to read about other peoples romance. You can go to a website that has collected a lot of love letters that you can read for free. It’s a bit confussing to see what is actually love letters from the website, and what are Google Ads. If you learn to determine where the Google Ads are, then it’s pretty simple to navigate around the website. I found a nice little story, with Tammy and God. Tammy is actually talking to God, and in this particular story, God talks back! The name of the story is The Big Picture.

It’s telling us that our appearance is less important than our inner beatuy. Most people really never look at inner beauty, but if you stay around somebody long enough, then you can sometimes see it, where no one else can. There is a saying “Love at first sight”, that is really true. We are naturally attracted to people by their outter beauty first. We start trying to learn their outter beauty, before we get the chance to know their inner beatuy. There’s nothing wrong with that, and it doesn’t make us shallow. It’s just a simple fact, that it’s easier to love someone attractive, than someone that’s not. It’s the same way about someone’s attitude. If someone is cocky and think they know it all, we won’t like this person as well as someone that is more quiet and considerate.

If you get the chance to know someone, then looks do become less important. For any relationship that last for a long time. It will have to have two people that get along with each other way past the looks part. So beauty might be a quick love source, but inner beauty is the lasting love that you will have to seek, for a long and fruitful relationship.

More letters are available to read like The Big Picture for anyone that is looking for more romance, or maybe just to get some romantic ideas. Just seeing a love note can sometimes inspire us to do something similar for our loved ones. Doing something romantic for your boyfriend, girlfriend, or spouse doesn’t have to be original. Just doing is more important than the origianlity, but you probably will find an idea you can tweak a bit, and it will be original for your close partner.

New Lawn Mowers

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Well my daddy was wanting to go to Home Depot today to get a new blade for our old lawn mower. On the way to Home Depot he just decided that he would get a new lawn mower. I’m amazed at what type of lawn mowers are out there now. There was many to choose from. Some that were real wide, and some very little. You had the riding lawn mowers, which some of these was as big as a car. Then the one that we were looking for, just a push mower.

So we was looking at the push mowers, and they were still a lot to decide. Did we want one that would bag the grass or not? Did we want electric start, or manual start? My daddy was trying to get the more expensive ones, but luckily I was able to talk him down. He just figured the more they were, the better they were. So I investigated them, just to see exactly what we was paying for. Now the one they had for $500 compared to one for $400 was a difference in the electric start. You were paying a $100 more, just so you could set the electric switch where the lawn mower would still run, if you let go of the lever. So saving the extra $100 here was big.

The next model down was $30 cheaper, and it just didn’t have the electric start. So we figured the electric start would tear up in a year probably anyways, so we went with the $370 lawn mower. Now the two things we don’t have by grading down, is that we don’t have the electric start, or can’t keep the mower running without having the lever down. So I think we did well saving the $130 on the cheaper lawn mower. All three of these lawn mowers were the same brand (Torro), all had 6.5 hp engines, and were 22″ wide on the cutting width. So if your shopping for a new lawn mower, see what exactly you are paying for, and you might decide like us, that some features aren’t worth the extra bucks.

Learn A New Language

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Learning a new language might just be the thing for you. It could help you get a job, by knowing how to speak a certain language. There are many employers today, that are looking for bilingual employees to hire. Then you could also visit a foreign country, and be able to speak their language. It would be helpful knowing a foreign language on vacations. You could learn a lot about a new country, just by learning their language and having the ability to communicate with them.

A lot of opportunities in the USA, that are available for those that can speak English and Spanish well. You could also learn how to speak French, Dutch, Albania, or other languages perhaps, through some of these audio books. You can simply download these audio books, and learn them on your own time. Crazy State Laws

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Now every state has crazy laws that are still on the books. At some time long ago, there was probably a good reason to have some of these laws. Since they were made into laws, some still exist today. Even though some of these don’t apply to us, or don’t even make much sense now, they are still laws. You could still be charged for these laws. However, it would probably create a lot of publicity for any law enforcement to try and enforce some of these laws.

Since I live in the state of Georgia. I will share some of the crazy laws that are still on the books today in the Peach State. Now some of these laws might just be a city or community in Georgia. Not all of these are state laws, but some of them are:

1) All citizens must own a rake.
2) It’s against the law to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp.
3) Can’t cut off a chicken’s head on Sunday.
4) Donkeys may not be kept in bathtubs.
5) Chicken must be eaten with the hands.
6) It is illegal to use profanity in front of a dead corpse.
7) Though it is illegal to spit from a car or bus, citizens may spit from a truck. 8) Members of the state assembly cannot be ticketed for speeding while the state assembly is in session.
9) No one may carry an ice cream cone in their back pocket if it is Sunday.
10) One man may not be on another man’s back.

So there is a few of the laws that are in my state. Don’t laugh. All 50 states have some sort of crazy laws that are still on the books today. Just remember that ignorance is no excuse for breaking a law. So as funny and weird as some of these may seem. You could still be charged with one of these, if they really wanted to get you for something.

Kid Rock

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Looking at the guy from Detroit, Kid Rock has had a lot of great songs. Cowboy and Bawitdaba are probably two of his more popular ones. Then he has teamed up with countless other singers and has performed duo’s. The most famous of these, might have been when he got with Cheryl Crow and performed the song Picture. He has blended rock and rap with great results. He’s even made it to the MTV’s Celebrity Death Match where he faced off with fellow Detroit Rapper Eminem.

Now some of his songs that haven’t got the air play on the radio, have been pretty good too. One song that was done real well, was a song called Only God Knows Why. It’s more of a slow ballad, and the song deals with someone waiting to get their fame. Here is the video of the song below:
