The technology of today continues to grow and Time Magazine is featuring all the great products that have came out in 2008. It’s really interesting to see some of the tech gadgets that have surfaced this year and 2009 promises to be another big year in the technology area. I think you would still have to say that the television and car are the two best inventions ever, but some of these that came out in 2008, may just challenge the technology of yesterday. I haven’t had experience with this product yet, but I’m sure it’s going to be the top cell phone choice of users for a long time to come and it is the “smart phone”. Apple is also responsible for 3 other products that made the top 20! The popular online website Facebook is the 3rd best invention on Time Magazine’s list and I really need to work my way over there and see what all the buzz is about. I have heard of Facebook and I guess it’s really becoming a valuable source for content online. Twitter is another website gaining in popularity and they made the list at number 19.

Other things that caught my eye was Google Maps at number 25, TiVo HD Box at 39, Thunderbird Email from Mozilla at 43, and Meebo Instant Messaging at 94. There was a couple of blogs that made the top 100 list and it’s great to see bloggers getting that type of attention and exposure from Time Magazine. Our world continues to expand daily and technology is leading the way and helping to make our lives easier. I can’t wait to see where we go from here!

It seems there is a bit of a conspiracy uproar in the fast food community. We as consumers are not allowed to see how the cow goes from the farm to our number 1 value meal. I’m not sure what the big secret could be, but if restaurants like McDonalds, Wendys, and Burger King are not giving out this information, it does make one wonder why. Wendys restaurant says they can’t release the information because of the competition. I guess they don’t want other big fast food chains to know that Farmer John in Iowa sells his cows cheaper than Farmer Jake in Oklahoma. Since we live in the age of lawsuits and contracts, I’m sure they are some contracts that get signed between the farmers and fast food restaurants and I’m not buying this reason.

We are the ones that order those happy meals for our kids, the big whopper sandwich from Burger King and the hot chilli from Wendys and they all have ground beef or red meat from cows in them. We have the right to know how these animals are treated on the farm and what they are fed. Many believe these animals are not being treated right and only being fed corn, instead of a more natural meal of grass and other greens growing in the pasteurs. The fast food restaurants don’t want us to know how the animals are being treated, because they know they would lose business if their customers found out about the miserable conditions these cows are being left to deal with. The chicken industry has the same problems too and the chickens aren’t being treated as well as they could be either.

If the big fast food restaurants won’t give up the information on all the steps from the farm to our dinner plates, I think it’s time we make a stand and put them in their place. Until they release step by step accounts and what food and water sources are being given to these animals, I will no longer eat at Wendys, McDonalds, or Burger King. These are the 3 restaurants you should stay away from, until more light can be shed on their butchering practices and what steps they take to insure they are doing what’s right for these poor defenseless cows.

Does 25 dollars sound like a lot of money? For most of us it isn’t a lot, but it’s money we don’t want to throw away either. I often find myself spending 25 dollars just on going out to eat or playing golf with my cousin. Why should we continue to pump money into industries and companies that are failing? Our economy will survive with the things people need or want to buy and forcing services or products on us tomorrow that we didn’t buy yesterday is the wrong approach. Now is not the time to be pointing fingers or picking out companies or our government to blame. Now is the time for average folks like you and I to help get the economy going again and we need the construction and real estate industries to help lead the way. I’m not sure how many people will be traveling this Thanksgiving. Usually the airports are the busiest during the Thanksgiving Holidays, but with the economy so bad right now, most people might just stay home this year. My family usually stays at home and my sister’s family comes over to watch football and eat all the great things my mama cooks up. We usually have turkey, ham, dressing, green beans, fried okra, giblet gravy, biscuits, and the typical Thanksgiving fixings. I really like the sweet potato pie for desert and it’s the one I eat most. Our family usually has several deserts on Thanksgiving Day, but the sweet potato pie is my favorite. I wouldn’t mind a little pumpkin pie too and that would hit the spot on Thanksgiving. So our family doesn’t have to worry about travel costs, but I’m sure other families are concerned this year. I love to go camping and there is just something about the outdoors that is special. You may think silence doesn’t make a sound, but it actually does. If you stay in the city too long and then get a chance to experience the outdoors, the sound of silence will be very obvious. It’s fun to throw on a pair of tactical pants and grab the fishing rods and camping gear for a weekend in the woods. It seems the presidential elections didn’t do much for the markets and they continue to slide today. The DOW had a big points drop on Wednesday, the day after Barack Obama was elected president of the United States. As of right now, the DOW is about 65 points on the negative side and it doesn’t sound like anything is in the near future to help those numbers. The markets acted very well when the words stimulus package got brought up, but it seems the days are growing shorter in 2008 for Americans to expect another check from the government this year. I think it’s a dangerous combination when citizens get a whiff of a check that might be coming and it suddenly gets pushed to the back. I don’t think the markets will recover this year, based on the stimulus checks not going out this year. It seems we all have a lot more to endear and the times are just too uncertain right now, for anybody to be trusting their hard-earned dollars to Wall Street.

I’m really glad the election is about to wrap up and I’m really getting tired of the news and commercials I see everyday revolving around the elections. It has been a long time since we have seen the DOW drop below 10,000 points but if the numbers hold up right now, we will finish under that benchmark today. The bailout was suppose to help the stock market regain its strength, but we haven’t seen that yet. I don’t think we should have approved the bailout and the people on Main Street shouldn’t have to bail out the folks on Wall Street. They say that Main Street will be affected if Wall Street is not doing well but they seem to forget it works both ways. If Main Street isn’t doing well that will hurt the companies and people investing in Wall Street. It’s a two way street and things won’t get better until we realize this. The bailout was for the rich people in our country and we have the poor to middle class people helping the rich stay richer. They are trying to cover our eyes in this financial crisis, but the folks on Main Street have been in a crisis for a long time now. Who is going to step up and bail these folks out?

We need a system in place that treats all parties equal. Bailing out the rich people in this country is not the way to do it and the Stock Market is reflecting that today. If a company is not strong enough to stand on its own two feet; then it needs to go under. We can’t ask the people living paycheck to paycheck to help the rich stay richer or put a band aid on failing companies. It might hurt us in the short term, but we will be much stronger in the long term. Don’t bail out anymore companies and no company is too big to fail. AIG should have gone under and it wasn’t a good idea to bail them out. Let the economies all over the world struggle right now and let’s begin laying solid foundation and we can all sleep better at night.
